اولین اتوبوس دو طبقه در ایران
اتوبوس دو طبقه برای اولین بار در سال 1954 در لندن و در سال 1337 در تهران استفاده شد و در زمان خودش برای مردم عجیب و هیجان‌آور بود. اولین تأثیری که این وسیله نقلیه غول پیکر در شهر تهران به‌جای گذاشت، کاهش حجم ترافیک به‌علت قابلیت بالای آن در جابجایی مسافران بود.سال‌های سال این غول‌های صنعت حمل‌ونقل علاوه بر شهر تهران در چندین شهر بزرگ کشور رفت و آمد می‌کردند، تا اینکه در اواخر دهه 70 با توسعه متروها و مشکلات زیست محیطی ناشی از سوخت گازوئیلی آن‌ها ، اتوبوس‌های دو طبقه یکی پس از دیگری از خطوط حمل و نقل به کنار رفته و به عنوان یکی از نمادهای نوستالژیک به خاطره‌ها پیوستند.

البته اینطور نبود که اتوبوس دو طبقه به طور کامل از سیستم ناوگان عمومی کشور کنار گذاشته شوند، چون بخشي از اين اتوبوس ها در اختيار نمايشگاه‌ها و فعاليت‌هاي گردشگري و توريستي قرار گرفتند.
به عنوان مثال خبرگزاری‌های سال 1391 خبر از رونمایی و آغاز بکار نخستین اتوبوس دو طبقه گردشگری در مشهد داد که در واقع بازسازی شده یکی از اتوبوس‌های از رده خارج شده سازمان اتوبوس‌رانی بود که این اتوبوس ها در مشهد استفاد میشد .
اتوبوس‌های ديگر در همان زمان فرسوده بودند و وارد فرآیند اسقاط شدند و بخش ديگر بازسازي شده و به بعضی از کشورهاي همسایه فروخته شدند.

اتوبوس دو طبقه جدید
امروزه شاهد نوآوری و تحول در ساخت اتوبوس‌های دو طبقه هستیم. در سال 2009 نخستین اتوبوس دو طبقه برقی جهان با شعار “حرکت به سمت آینده ای پاک” در لندن آغاز بکار کرد، که مجهز به باتری‌های برقی با انرژی کافی ، برای حرکت بود و به سرعت تعداد بالایی از آن ساخته و در خیابان‌های لندن فعالیت کردند.
البته در تمام شهرهای توریستی جهان این اتوبوس‌های دوست داشتنی دیده میشوند که از آن‌ها به نام “hop on hop off bus ” اسم برده می‌شود و در مقایسه با هزینه بالای تاکسی در شهر مقصد ،موجب کاهش هزینه‌ها میشوند. تصور کنید در یک اتوبوس گردشگری نشسته اید و در حالیکه به توضیحات تور لیدر در مورد جاذبه‌های گردشگری مقصد گوش می‌کنید ، از تماشای مناطق دیدنی شهر نیز لذت می‌برید.
اهمیت زیرساخت های گردشگری را نباید دست کم گرفت. چرا که تدابیر این چنینی برای رفاه حداکثری مسافران ، موجب افزایش جذب توریست می شود.
